Awesome Gifts for Guys, a link-up party!

by Hallie @ Moxie Wife on December 5, 2012

Welcome to the Awesome Gifts for Guys link-up party! I’m so happy you’re here and hope you’ll join in! Judging from my inbox, there are a whole bunch of us who can’t come up with anything just right to buy our special someone. I’m so stumped, in fact, that I have a wee little confession to make: many of my ideas below were copied and pasted from last year’s post of the same theme. (Forgive me?)

That’s why we need you and all your brilliant ideas!

If you’d like to join in, simply share a list of your favorite gifts for guys over on your blog, then add a link to the Mister Linky list below.

I’m going to start with my absolute favorite pick: my husband’s new book, Choosing Joy. While this is absolutely and without a doubt a book that everyone and anyone could benefit from, I think it fills a special void for men who’ve had about all they can take of saccharine spirituality. Take this excerpt for example:

“Joy is not something you would expect to find in someone like my dad. His father abandoned him and his younger brother when they were both infants. His mother stayed, but she was hard-shelled and aloof. The three of them blew through the slums of 1940′s Atlanta like fallen leaves, moving to and from squalid apartments with gaping holes in the walls and broken plumbing. Everyone around them endured the same dreary poverty; one family they knew literally lived in a chicken coop. The males of this world were almost all like my dad’s father: human driftwood, coming and going as they pleased, pathetically lazy or darkly savage. My dad once described for me a fight he witnessed between two men which culminated in one of them slicing open the other’s stomach with a straight razor…”

(To get an even better feel for his book, do read Jennifer Fulwiler’s awesome review. She really nailed it.)

Next up, this standing valet! This is one of those gifts that doesn’t seem like it would be all that thrilling to give (or receive) but ultimately makes our husband’s days just a little bit easier – and that just might be one of the best gifts you could give him.

I also love this pocket compass. I don’t know why Dan would need a Pocket Compass but I am becoming increasingly convinced that he does.

These Classic Chalk Talk Mugs are pretty awesome. How sweet would it be to bring your husband a cup of coffee accompanied by a little love note? Or better yet – buy two and you lovebirds can exchange notes!

I do so love a man with a handkerchief, don’t you?

Crazy expensive, but Dan and I have both coveted this Bose Wave Music System for years so I couldn’t resist including it. It’s fun to dream, no?

I am smitten, smitten, smitten with this Mr. & Mrs. Love Collection from DaySpring. The mugs are just too cute. Mr. Lord may just have to indulge me on this one.

I happen to think every married couple needs a Basket o’ Love. Simply select a lovely basket, fill it with candles and oils and such, and present it to your devoted husband (on Christmas Eve, perhaps?).

On a related note, make him feel all cozy with these Nautica robes and then rope him into snuggling with you all night long. Brilliant, yes?

I am all over this MagnoGrip Magnetic Wristband. If your guy can stomach wearing a man bracelet this could be a very good thing for us ladies, indeed. More time spent putting our feet up, less time spent standing under ladders holding small metal sundries.

Anything by Jim Gaffigan is sure to be a hilarious hit.

Any nerd worth his salt needs a pair of Superhero Stamp Cuffs. I’m such a sucker for cute nerds, aren’t you?

Is your husband a voracious reader? Perhaps a selection or two from Barnes and Noble’s leatherbound series of classics would hit the spot!

Another great pick for bibliophiles is this Personal Library Kit which comes complete with self-adhesive pockets, checkout cards, a pencil, date stamp, and inkpad!

And for those mornings when I sleep in? A Keurig should treat my sweet husband just fine.

I am my husband’s official provider of watches. It’s just a thing we do. You can’t beat Fossil, in my humble opinion.

LOVE these record coasters.

And these beer mugs.

Ooh, and doesn’t this leather iPhone sleeve look handy? I may need to buy Dan an iPhone just so that I can give him this sleeve!

Is your husband handy? Is he a Dad? If you answered yes to both, you simply must buy this Handy Dad book for him. It’s a very, very cool book.

Give him a Genius Deck – because every man wants to know that his girl thinks he’s a genius!

There’s just something delicious about a man with a real Shaving Kit, don’t you agree?

Pub signs are cool. So are personalized gifts. Combine them and you have one awesome gift on your hands – Personalized Pub Signs!

Fantastic blog. Fantastic book. The Art of Manliness book is a must-have.

Have I mentioned just how much I adore our Flip Video Camera? There’s not much that delights me more than watching my husband capture his favorite moments with our little ones on film.

And, last but not least, what man’s man wouldn’t love a Leatherman?

Great call Moxie, a good list.

I might also add, a DE (double edge) razor or safety razor. It is quite the pleasure to use, a better shave, good for the face (at least mine), cheaper over the long haul, and just a cool thing to do.

AoM is a really good site.

My bad, you offered a shaving kit. Then I will recommend a razor. The Merkur 34c HD is a good starting point.

Thanks so much for hosting, Hallie! That library kit looks like such a winner for my husband, who’s an English teacher and loves books! So looking forward to checking back and seeing everyone else’s gift guides =)

Whee! I had to email my husband to tell him in no uncertain terms not to read my blog today. I’m sure he is offering up his suffering. An Advent sacrifice.

Inspired link-up. I find shopping for the gents in my life very rewarding, since we gals are more apt to gift ourselves than they are :-)

I’m a day late and I haven’t read any of the other posts yet but I really can’t wait. I’m clean out of ideas and I have Hubby, Father and Father-In-Law to buy for and time is ticking away fast. Thanks for hosting this Hallie, it’s a fantastic idea.

Dear Hallie, I’ve been reading your blog for ages, and this is my first comment. I just had to add that awhile ago (maybe a year? who knows?) you suggested a clothing valet as a good gift for husbands. I thought, “What’s that?” and clicked on the link- and I immediately knew my husband would love it. I was right! He does love it! He throws his wadded-up clothing on the floor right underneath it…. but he still really does love having it there!!! Haha thanks for all your amazing advice, you help so many readers in more ways than you know :D
